Megan Ford is a senior at Manhattanville College majoring in Music Management. For three years she served as President of her class. “That position gave me vast leadership experience,” she said. I was the voice for my class in meetings both with the Student Government Association and the administration.” Megan is also the Music Director of the Manhattanville Gospel Choir, Treasurer of the Black Student Union, and a member of the college Step Team. She is also Co-President of Manhattanville Sound, the College’s premier women's a cappella group. In the fall she is looking forward to applying for an internship at a music label (Sony or Warner) in Manhattan through the department’s music internship program. Megan is also a very active member of her church community.
“I decided on this major because it was a way for me to combine my interests in law and music. My goal is to eventually work as an entertainment lawyer on behalf of artists in the music industry,” she said. When Megan mentioned this at a college fair at her high school, she was advised to look at Manhattanville.
“I started asking some questions, and the school sounded great,” she said. “I came for a tour and coincidentally, the tour guide was a Music Management major. He started talking about it and immediately I said ‘that's what I want to do!’ By the time the tour finished, I was calling my mother to let her know that I had found the school I was going to.”
Megan advises incoming students to take a variety of classes. “I have found that it makes the experience less intimidating when your semester is not entirely consumed by classes specific to your major,” she said. “Also, get to know the faculty early so that you'll already have good working relationships with everyone that you'll be taking classes with. This will also make it easier for you to choose an advisor. And finally, don't sell back any of your music books. They come in handy as the intensity of the Music Management classes increase.”
Megan has also participated in several community service activities on campus through the Duchesne Center for Social Justice. These activities have included the Breast Cancer Walk, the Up ‘Til Dawn letter writing campaign, and the program Connections. “I particularly liked doing the Up ‘Til Dawn campaign,” she said. “Non-profit organizations do great things for the community, and my love for children makes me stand behind St. Jude's 100%. I also intend to work with the students at the Coachman Center this fall.”
